Shoulds vs. Wants

In my Skirt Sports Ambassador Facebook group one of the ladies posted about shoulds vs wants.

I should run this race, I should lose weight, I should do what everyone else is doing……vs. What I want to do.

It spoke to me!

I began to think about my shoulds vs wants! When you really dig deep and think about this, it can be very calming.

In the beginning of 2020 I, used my shoulds vs wants in regards to running. I decided to do very few races. Running will always be a large part of me and who I am, but I don’t have to do a race to be a runner. And if I do a race it is because I want to.

Now that life has taken a completely different turn and we have more time on our hands thanks to COVID-19, I have shifted my thinking!

I want to enjoy these last months of having my kids around before I am an empty nester in August. I want to go hiking with my husband. I want to go to Body Pump with my daughter when the gym reopens. I want to go walking with my daughter. I want to watch Jeopardy every night with my 19 year old son. (He was known around the hockey community in Fort Wayne as the one who watches Jeopardy 😂).

I have lots of wants this year. and they don’t include a race or distance or time goal and it feels really good to be at peace with that.

Other wants: find JOY in everyday, slow down and have calm in my life.
