Priority #10 – The Backseat

Priority #10 – The Backseat

I can only be authentic when I am true to me. In my last blog, Priority #1, I discussed that I have always strived to make ME my number 1 priority. But I have a confession to make: A short time ago, I realized I had taken a backseat for the last 3-5 years.

WHY? LIFE!

You can call it STRESS! Stress of work, family, and again overall life. Teenagers are a different stress all in itself. I realized that I was putting everything else as the priority, and forgot about me.

I wasn’t eating as healthy as I normally like to eat, and I was stress eating. Of course that resulted in a few pounds gained; then feelings of sluggishness and a lack of motivation to exercise the way I was used to. It all lead to a quick spiral downward.

Instead of beating myself up, I made a vow to eat better, and get daily exercise. I had to change my way of thinking and looking at myself again. I looked back at the last few years to see what I can learn from them. There were lots of hours in the car transporting kids to activities, not meal prepping the way I should, not drinking enough water, and generally getting in a rut of everyday life that did not suit me.

I have started back to gym. I have started eating more plant based foods. I am drinking lots of water, with a gallon a day being my goal. Yes, I backslide a little, but I know that I have already set some goals for 2019. These goals will be my motivation going into 2019.
