$100 for tightening a screw?
In my profession, I educate, coach and listen to my clients. My profession is nutrition. Nutrition for weight loss, diabetes, hypertension, sports, health, and overall feeling better.
I also enjoy learning from my clients. I learn about their lives, their professions, their hobbies, their passions and their emotions. I also learn wisdom.
In the past, I have had the mindset that in order for a client to “get their money’s worth”, I needed to cover all aspects of nutrition and provide them with a plan. This would leave me exhausted and the client completely overwhelmed. I was doing my client a disservice. This approach was not helping my clients move forward in their health and wellness journey.
I recently saw a client for weight loss. That is what the client hired me for. Once I met the client and listened to their story, I provided my client with alternative goals. I explained the science behind these alternative goals. This particular client understood the new direction I was pointing him in.
As we were wrapping up he told me a tale:
A guys refrigerator broke down. He called for a repairman. The repairman came and all he did was tighten a screw and charged him $100. The guy said “$100 for tightening a screw?” The repairman replies, “$100 for tightening the right screw”.
This story really hit me. It made me smile! It made me feel good that my approach to my clients is the right approach.
It doesn’t matter how much information I provide to someone. What matters is that the information is pertinent to the true goals that the client wants to achieve, can science back me up and that the client understands the WHY.
If you are ready to make some changes in you life around health and wellness, let me know.
